Abuja, July 27, 2012 (SPS) - The Minister of Culture, Ms. Khadija Hamdi, has called, in a speech during the opening session of 7th Summit of African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM), for dispatching a fact-finding mission to the Saharawi Republic to preview the pivotal role played by women to promote the culture of peaceful resistance and strengthening it.

“AFLPM can play an important role in the acceleration of the course of peaceful settlement to the Saharawi-Moroccan conflict and in evading the confrontations slides and armed escalation in the region,” underlined the Minister.

“Women as well as children and all segments of the Saharawi society are subjected to different malicious practices of the occupation, including the kidnapping,” said the Minister.

She demanded a condemnation to all this in the presence of dozens of human rights activists and politicians in prison, adding that they have been subject to psychological and physical torture and all inhuman practices such as rape and other.

“Hundreds of them are engaged in this moment in open hunger strikes, in addition to daily peaceful protests in our occupied cities with the super-exploitation by Moroccan occupation of our natural wealth, in violation to the international laws,” added Ms. Khadija Hamdi.

The Saharawi official praised in the same regard the level of African solidarity, appreciating the role played by African women, Nigerians in particular, in the solidarity with Saharawi woman, pointing in this regard to an African Conference of Solidarity with the Saharawi Women hosted in October 2011 by the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

A Saharawi delegation is attending the summit which opened on July 24 at the levels of experts and expected to conclude today, by approving a final working document which will be a base for the activities of the Initiative during the coming years, according to the organizers. (SPS)
