Cantabria (Spain), August 5, 2012 (SPS) - The Cantabria Non-Governmental Organizations for Western Sahara have regretted decision of the Spanish government to withdraw aid workers from the Saharawi refugee camps, describing it “unfounded act” which would lead to negative repercussions on the Saharawi refugees, according to a statement published Saturday by Spanish Press Agency (EFE).
The statement called on the organizations and institutions that support the Saharawi people to rapidly seek ways avoiding the isolation and ensure adequate assistance for the Saharawi people.
“While the international community has not exercised its responsibility to reach a just and lasting solution to the conflict of Western Sahara, the organizations supporting the Saharawi people reiterate solidarity and confirm its constant presence in the Saharawi refugee camps and in the territories occupied of Western Sahara,” underlined the ONG.
The President of the Coordination of Cantabria Associations of Solidarity with the Saharawi People, Mr. José Carlos Ceballos, expressed solidarity with all organizations that works for the Saharawi people, highlighting that the security measures in the region have improved.
“What happened merely reiterates the need for political and diplomatic action more decisively to end the injustice suffered by the Saharawi people and find a solution - he says - enabling them to exercise self-determination,” he added. (SPS)
