Rabat, August 12, 2012 (SPS) - Around 500 peoples took part Sunday in a sit-in in Rabat to protest the high cost of living as well as repression of February 20th Movement, and for the respect of freedoms and human rights, reported local and international media.
The sit-in was called by the National Council for Support to the February 20th Movement (CNAM20).
Participants in the sit-in, who gathered at Bab el-Had quarter, denounced the policies adopted by Moroccan coalition government led since January 2012 by the President of Justice and Development Party Abdelilah Benkirane.
“The goal through of this vigil is to bring attention to effects of the economic policy, which have been pursuing by the government since seven months, on lives of the people especially those indigents,” Mohamed Aoun, Coordinator of February 20th Movement told Algerian Press Agency (APS).
“It is also about condemning the repression experienced by the activists of the associative movement, particularly activists of February 20th Movement many of them have recently been imprisoned,” he added.
The coordinator pointed out that several cities in Morocco organized Saturday evening similar vigils demanding better social condition and a life of dignity. (SPS)
