Attack on Saharawi citizens in occupied El Aaiun leaves injured

El Aaiun (occupied territories), August 26, 2012 (SPS) - A barbaric Attack by Moroccan occupation forces on a peaceful demonstration organized Saturday by a group of Saharawi citizens in Smara’s Street, occupied city of El Aaiun, to celebrate the visit of RFK Centre delegation, leaving a number of injured including the former political prisoner Sukeina Jadahlu, a media source told SPS.


The source said that the Saharawi citizens were chanting some national slogan, before dispersed by Moroccan police moments before the arrival of the delegation of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights to place of the demonstration.


The former Saharawi political prisoner and president of Sahrawi Women Forum Sukeina Jadahlu was heinously attacked, where she was beaten and kicked without mercy and compassion. In addition, the Saharawi activist Teslem Dawdi is suffering of fractures, added the source.


The U.S. human rights delegation visited place of the demonstration, and thus what embarrassed Moroccan authorities.


Immediately after the delegation left place of the attacks, the Moroccan police dispersed by force the Saharawi demonstrators, the source indicated.


Following the announcement of the delegation visit, Moroccan authorities worked in various ways to mislead the delegation and prevent the Saharawis from pouring into the streets.


The arrival of RFK Centre delegation to El Aaiun’s airport on Friday night was surrounded by a tight security and media blackout. Also the Saharawi districts known for their demonstrations like Boucraa, Matalaa and Smara Street witnessed a massive deployment of repression forces, police, general queries and intelligence agents in civil clothes, reported eyewitnesses.
