President of Republic calls on UN to urgently intervene to release Saharawi Political prisoners in Salé Prison, Morocco

Bir Lehlu(liberated territories) , Spt 12, 2012 (SPS). - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, has appealed to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to “immediately intervene” to release the Saharawi political prisoners in Salé and other Moroccan jails.

 

In letter to Ban Ki-moon , The President of the Republic called the decision of the Moroccan occupation to subject 23 Saharawi Political prisoners to military trial “unjust and contradicts the international law”

 

“These serious developments demonstrate clear and blatant disregard  by the Moroccan government to the international legitimacy and the values ​​and ideals of humanity” says President Mohamed Abdelaziz.

 

He underlined that the Moroccan authorities of occupation subject “peaceful civilians” to military court because they call for the right of the Saharawi people to freedom, self-determination and independence

The Secretary General of the Polisario Front highlighted the deteriorating health conditions of those political prisoners  as a consequence of  torture and mistreatment they face in the prison, recalling the suffering of their families.

 

President Mohamed Abdelaziz renewed call for human rights monitoring among the MINORSO mandate.

 

Furthermore, he requested the international to exert the necessary pressure and sanctions on the Moroccan occupation authorities to abide by the international legitimacy, stop looting the Saharawi natural resources, remove its separated military wall and reveal the whereabouts of more than 651 Saharawi disappeared.
