Washington, Sept 29, 2012 (SPS) - The RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights has presented the preliminary observations of his recent visit to the occupied territories of Western Sahara and Saharawi refugee camps at the end of last August to members of the U.S. Congress, said a statement released Wednesday by the Center.

The report of the international observer mission pointed out that the continuing violations of human rights in the occupied territories are taking place with impunity, calling for accelerating the establishment of a UN mechanism of the human rights in Western Sahara.

A summary of the report was submitted to the U.S. Congress requesting the authorities to support the inclusion of the protection and monitoring of human rights within the mandate of MINURSO.

It also requested the Moroccan authorities “to immediately suspend government agents under investigation for human rights violations and establish an effective vetting program; ensure effective access to due process and judicial guarantee, without discrimination, and regardless of political positions.” (SPS)
