Zimbabwe reaffirms its unwavering support for legitimate struggle of the Saharawi people

Harare, Oct 03, 2012 (SPS) - The Minister of Defence of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa has reiterated on Wednesday the unwavering position of his country to  support the legitimate struggle of the Saharawi people, said statement of the Saharawi embassy in Harare.

 

"The consistent position of the Republic of Zimbabwe remains unchangeable. It goes back to our liberation struggle and we will continue to defend the legitimate struggle of the Saharawi people in all international forums," said Mr.Emmerson Mnangagwa during a meeting with the Saharawi Ambassador Saleh Deich held at the Ministry of Defence in Harari.

 

Mr. Mnangagwa hoped for the end the suffering of the Saharawi people in the near time through the exercise of thier right to self-determination and to build their state. "We want a near victory for the Saharawi people so they can live in peace like all peoples of the world," he added.

 

For his part,  the Saharawi Ambassador informed his interlocutor of the latest developments in the Western Sahara issue, noting the intransigence of Morocco which shows no political will to find a solution that respects the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence in accordance with the UN charters and resolutions.

 

The Saharawi diplomat also expressed concern over the deteriorating situation of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara where Sahrawis are subjected to the worst forms of repression, torture and denial of their basic rights.

 

He  also reiterated its call for the international community on the need to act urgently to protect the Saharawis and put pressure on Morocco to end its "inhuman” practices and allow UN mechanism to monitor the situation of human rights. (SPS)
