Algiers, Nov 08, 2012 (SPS)- United Nations Secretary General’s special envoy Christopher Ross on Wednesday in Algiers reaffirmed his commitment to reaching a fair settlement for Western Sahara issue, ensuring Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and restoring peace and stability in the region.

Ross, following an audience granted to him by the Algerian President  Abdelaziz Bouteflika, told reporters he would like, "on a personal level," to work towards a settlement to put an end to the conflict and the suffering of Sahrawi families.

A settlement, he said, that is likely to strengthen peace and stability in North Africa and the Sahel region and to contribute to completing the construction of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU).

"Western Sahara conflict has lasted far too long (37 years)." (SPS)
