Bloemfontein (South Africa), Dec 21, 2012 (SPS) -the 53rd National Elective Conference of the South African National Congress (ANC) took place from 16th to 20th December 2012 in the city of Bloemfontein, reaffirmed the inalienable right of the people of Western Sahara to self-determination and independence.
In a motion adopted by the congress of the ANC, it recalled “the historic relations of comradeship and solidarity existing between the ANC and the Polisario Front as allies in the struggle against injustice, colonialism and apartheid.”
“Recalling that Western Sahara is the only remaining colony in Africa.
“Recalling all relevant UN Human Rights reports and reports of other international human rights organizations such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch,”
The ANC condemns” the pullout of Morocco from the UN-led peace process and call on the UN to bring all parties back to the negotiating table.”
The African National Congress urged the international community “to assume without further delay, their legal and moral responsibility on granting respect to the inalienable right for self-determination of the people of Western Sahara”
It also called upon the African Union and progressive forces to “join efforts in solidarity with Polisario Front for the realisation of independence, freedom and self-determination of the Saharawi people.”
The 53rd Conference of ANC expressed “solidarity with Saharawi political prisoners andhuman rights defenders”, urging the international community to protect “Saharawi civilians, including support both materially and otherwise,” encouraging “delegations to visit the occupied territories and refugee camps.”
The ANC called on the international community to “mobilise and pressurise Morocco to immediately lift the military, security and media blackout imposed in the occupied territories of Western Sahara,”
It also called on “to remove” the Moroccan Military wall of shame that divides Western Sahara and its people into two parts.
The ANC called on “to initiate and lobby the international community for the wealth of Western Sahara to be under the mandate of the United Nations.”
Finally The ANC saluted “the struggle and determination of the Saharawi people, both in occupied and liberated zones, as well as in refugee camps under the leadership of Polisario Front.”(SPS)
