Kampala (Uganda) March21,2013(SPS) the Ugandan Minister for Foreign Affairs Sam Kutesa ,reaffirmed the firm and clear position that Uganda has for so long adopted and will continue to in favor of the Sahrawi people and their right to self determination and independence, according to the Saharawi Embassy to Uganda.
The Minister expressed this position on Thursday during his meeting with the Ambassador of the Saharawi Republic to Uganda Mr. Habib Mahfud Boukhreis, who conveyed to him a written message from his Saharawi counterpart, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek.
the Saharawi Ambassador informed the Ugandian Minister on the latest developments of the Saharawi issue including the ongoing visit of Kristopher Ross to the region, the upcoming meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Western Sahara at the end of April 2013 and the human rights situation in Western Sahara in particular the trial of 25 Sahrawi activists in the Moroccan Military court on February 17.
The Ugandan Minister of Foreign Affairs “strongly condemned the continuous gross violations of human rights in Sahrawi occupied territories especially the unjust trial of the Sahrawi civilian activists in the Moroccan military Court and heavy sentences inflicted to them” promising to “raise this problem within Human rights organizations to ensure the release of Gdeim Izik group,” the source added.
At the end Honorable KUTESA urged the United Nations to “include Human Rights monitoring in MINURSO mandate.”(SPS)
