PARIS ,May 14, 2013 (SPS)- The Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture (ACAT), an international NGO, called on French President François Hollande to “condition“ cooperation with Morocco to the respect by this country of human rights in the occupied Western Sahara.
In its May’s call entitled “Western Sahara: France-Morocco, the friendship of shame,” the ACAT’s French section requests from the French President to “strongly and systematically condemn the serious violations of Sahrawi’s fundamental rights” and “to condition the bilateral and European economic cooperation with Morocco to the respect, by the kingdom, of its international human rights commitments."
In a petition to Hollande, the signatories expressed their “strong disapproval toward the soft line France took with Morocco, despite the serious violations of human rights Moroccan authorities perpetrated against the Sahrawi people.”(SPS)
