NEW YORK, June 11, 2013 (SPS)- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon reiterated Monday to the president of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, United Nation’s commitment to a solution based on a mutually acceptable agreement providing for Saharawi people’s self-determination.
Saharawi President met Monday, in the UN headquarters in New York, Ban Ki-Moon and the chairman of the Security Council, British Sir Mark Lyall Grant.
Discussions were intended to push forward with Western Sahara issue, which has reached stalemate.
Mohamed Abdelaziz also broached with the UN chief and Grant human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara.
The meeting with Ban Ki-moon was attended by UN Special Envoy for Western Sahara Christopher Ross, UN Deputy Secretary-General for Human Rights Ivan Simonovic and senior UN officials.
During the meeting, the UN chief greeted Polisario Front’s commitment to favouring dialogue and underlined the attention he pays to human rights situation in Western Sahara.(SPS)
