New York, June 27, 2013 (SPS)- The UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon has stresses the need for human rights sustained monitoring in Western Sahara, in a readout issued Monday on the UN website, after the Secretary-General's meeting with Taib Fassi Fihri, Advisor of King Mohammed VI of Morocco
He called on Morocco “to observe international human rights standards and stressed the need for sustained monitoring in Western Sahara” the readout reported
The Secretary-General also “urged the Moroccan Government to continue to work with his Personal Envoy Christopher Ross and with MINURSO”.
He also called on the Government of Morocco to continue to engage in the UNHCR confidence-building measures, especially the family visits programme, which he said could contribute to alleviate the suffering of separated families.(SPS)
