Khatri Addouh takes part at annual session of AU countries’ parliaments

Midrand (South Africa), Aug 17, 2013 (SPS) - Speaker of the Saharawi National Council (Parliament) Mr. Khatri Addouh took part at the annual session of the speakers of AU countries’ parliaments, held in Midrand on 15-16 August at Pan-African Parliament headquarters, informed a source of SADR embassy in South African.


Mr. Addouh was accompanied by Mr. Salha Al-Abd, ambassador in South Africa, Ms. Sweilma Beiruk, second vice-president of the Pan-African Parliament, Ms. Senia Ahmed Marhba and Jamal Al-Bandir, members of PAP, and Mr. Al-Ouali Mousa, advisor to SADR embassy in South Africa.


The meeting addressed several important topics such as: the transition of the Pan-African Parliament’s role from legislative to consultative, the role of parliaments in African Renaissance as well as in the implementation of the millennium goals, promotion of democracy and good governance, harmonization of legislation to promote integration and trade among African countries, among others.


Addressing the session, Mr. Addouh pointed out to the role played by the parliaments in achieving the aspirations of the African people, and their active participation in achieving development and progress of the continent and its institutions.


Adduh has met with his counterparts from Algeria, Angola, Congo, Mali, Chad, Mauritius, besides the President of the Pan African Parliament.


The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) along with Algeria, Angola, Congo, Mali, Chad and Mauritius Islands will be part of the drafting committee of the act of incorporation of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments of the African Union. (SPS)
