Paris (France), November 10, 2013 (SPS) - A rally to demand the “unconditional” release of the Saharawi political prisoners, detained in the Moroccan jails, was held Saturday in Paris at the initiative of the League of Saharawi Students in France (LJESF).
Carrying Saharawi flags and photos of Saharawi prisoners, the demonstrators chanted slogans against the Moroccan government and claimed a referendum of self-determination under the aegis of the United Nations.
For LDESF’s President Aziza Bent Ahmeda, this rally commemorates the third anniversary of the “violent” dismantling of Gdeim Izik camp on 9 November 2010.
“This event is important in the history of Western Sahara. It is from the dismantling of Gdeim Izik camp that our brothers were imprisoned and sentenced to heavy penalties. We are here to support them and raise the awareness of the French to our just cause,” she said.
For her, France, which defends the values of the Republic and human rights, “turns blind eye to human rights violations in Western Sahara, and to the right of Saharawi people to self-determination.” (SPS)
