WGAD assesses Moroccan human rights abuses in Black Prison

نشر في

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Dec 19, 2013 (SPS) - The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) met last Monday with the two Saharawi political prisoners, Mahjub Awold Shichk and Kamal Trayah, incarcerated in Black Jail, reported the Collective of Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA).

During the meeting, Saharawi prisoners informed the UN Working Group about the bad conditions experienced by the rest of the Saharawi political prisoners, calling on the UN to create a UN human rights monitoring mechanism in Western Sahara.

They also confirmed to the Group that the reason behind their imprisonment is merely because of their political positions with regard to the Western Sahara question.

It should be recalled that a group of WGAD had visited from 9 to 18 December 2013 Morocco and Western Sahara.

The delegation was headed by the Chair-Rapporteur Mr. Mads Andenas (Norway).

The final report of the visit will be presented to the Human Rights Council in 2014. (SPS)
