Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Dec 19, 2013 (SPS) - “Morocco is powerless in face of the gains and victories of the Intifada (uprising) in the occupied territories after a year of resistance and challenges,” said Wednesday the Saharawi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek.

In an assessment report presented before the fall session of the Saharawi National Council (parliament), the Minister stressed that the Saharawi diplomacy “with the resistance of in the occupied territories, could lead for the first time, a real diplomatic battle within security Council.”

Ould Salek added that thanks to this resistance the Sahrawi issue “found unparalleled echo at the Security Council amid international condemnation.”

He also indicated that the adherence of some states of the world such as the United States to the campaign aiming at expanding MINURSO mandate “brought moral support to the Saharawis’ sacrifices, and isolated the Moroccan regime.”

“Despite the attitude of France and some Gulf countries to hinder the adoption of the U.S. initiative, members of the UN Security Council took firm positions and adopted the UN decision 2099 calling for the need to adopt international standards to draw up independent and credible measures to ensure respect for human rights,” pointed out head of Saharawi diplomacy.
