Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 12, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente Polisario Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz called yesterday, Tuesday, on the United Nations (UN) to exert pressure on Morocco to comply with international legitimacy and thus allows self-determination referendum to take place in Western Sahara.
During a reception granted to an Algerian women parliamentary delegation, President Mohamed Abdelaziz asked the UN to exert all possible types of pressure on the Kingdom of Morocco to comply with international legitimacy, as to allow that self-determination referendum been conducted in Western Sahara.
In response to a question on the topic of self-determination referendum, President of the Republic regretted for the failure to achieve any significant progress in the direction of enabling the Saharawi people to exercise their legitimate right to self-determination, due to Morocco’s continued obstacles.
He also indicated that the Saharawi party expressed to the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General, Mr. Christopher Ross, during his last visit to the Saharawi refugee camps “deep concern” over the failure to realize any progress in this regard.
He, moreover, expressed hope that the forthcoming UN Security Council’s resolution, to be issued next April, would give the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) the powers to monitor human rights in Western Sahara. (SPS)
