Polisario Front “strongly” condemns Morocco’s theft of Saharawi natural resources

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Sept 4, 2014 (SPS) - The Frente Polisario has “strongly” condemned the methods of looting and theft of Western Sahara natural resources by Morocco, urging, in this regard, Kosmos Energy to “immediately” cease its drilling activities offshore Western Sahara.


In a communiqué issued at the end of the 9th ordinary session of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, held on 1-3 September 2014, the Polisario Front “strongly” condemned the acts of looting and theft of Western Sahara natural resources, in conspiracy, regrettably, with significant parties and multinational companies.


The communiqué, in this respect, warned of the drilling operations carried out by the U.S. oil and gas exploration company “Kosmos Energy” offshore Western Sahara.


It described, in the same regard, the move as “a dangerous precedent contradicts ethics and international legitimacy,” adding that such activities by Kosmos would have “pernicious consequences on peace and stability”


The Frente Polisario renewed its call on the European Union (EU) to annul the fisheries pact with Morocco and refrain from signing any future agreement does not exclude the territorial waters of Western Sahara.


Without doing so, stated the communiqué, the EU contributes, with regret, in the theft and pillaging of the natural resources of an innocent people and occupied land, and thus a violation of international law and the principles, values and foundations of the European Union.


The Polisrio Front, on other hand, warned of the fact that the heavily-mined Moroccan occupation wall takes the lives of innocent people and destroys their property and livestock, underlying that such wall constitutes “a materially-stationed terrible stumbling block, which separates Western Sahara territory and population.”


It, in this respect, appealed to the international community to work in favour of dismantle it, given that it is a crime against humanity and contradict peace and settlement efforts.


The communiqué, therefore, denounced harassments and arbitrary expulsion of international observes by the Moroccan occupying state, confirming that the international community “is obliged to ensure the respect for the basic rights of the Saharawi citizens, lift the blockade and put an end to the illegal Moroccan military occupation of Western Sahara.
