Geneva, Sept 18, 2014 (SPS) - The former Saharawi political prisoner, Mastafa Mashdoufi, presented Wednesday a testimony before the 27th session of the UN Human Rights Council, underway in Geneva, in which he unveiled the horrible face of the Moroccan regime.
Speaking on behalf of France Libertés Foundations, the Saharawi activist informed the audience about the many systematic violations of human rights perpetrated by Moroccan occupying state against the Saharawi civilians, of which forcible detention, interrogation under torture, restriction on the freedom movement and expulsion of international observers.
The ex-political prisoner called upon the Human Rights Council of the UN to put an end to such practices.
He voiced concern over the deteriorating situation of the Saharawi political prisoners, asking to free them or retry them in civilian courts.
Mashdoufi renewed France Libertés call to enlarge the prerogatives of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include the monitoring and protection of human rights, pending the decolonization of the territory.
The Saharawi activist, on other hand, recalled to the expulsion by Moroccan occupying authorities of the French national, Christel Letard, from the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara. (SPS)
