Saharawi community in Belgium calls for international investigation on death of Hasena Elwali

Brussels, October 7, 2014 (SPS) - The Association of Saharawi Community in Belgium called for an international investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of Saharawi political prisoner and human rights activist, Hasena Elwali, whose death and burial in the occupied city of Dakhla remain unknown.

 

The Association launched an urgent appeal calling the organizations and associative movements around the world to put pressure on the Moroccan government to punish those responsible and brings them before justice and to release all Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan prisons, in a statement received by SPS.

 

 It also expressed support and solidarity with the bereaved family and all his fellow citizens who still languish in Moroccan prisons.

 

The Saharawi political prisoner and human rights activist, Hasena Elwali, died on September 28, at the military hospital in the occupied city of Dakhla, where he was transferred in a coma following the deterioration of his health.

 

He was buried Saturday by the Moroccan authorities in the absence of his family, it should be recalled. (SPS)
