Berlin, October 20, 2014 (SPS) - The German association, Liberty for Western Sahara, has condemned the continuous violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, in a statement Sunday.
In this context, the association mourned the Sahrawi prominent activist of human rights, member of the committee against torture, who died on September 27th, in the hospital in Dakhla, where he had been prisoner for three years and suffered torture.
“Since years he suffered from diabetes, also of ulcer. He was not granted a medical treatment, even when his condition worsened considerably. It was only when he fell into coma that he was brought into the hospital of Dakhla where he died following the tortures suffered,” said the association in its statement.
“His body way not handed over to his family. Instead Hassana was buried in an unknown place on October 4th. This is an obvious sign that the Moroccan authorities fear an exact forensic examination on an independent investigation about the reasons of his death by all means,” it added.
Lastly, the association called upon the German Government to take Hassana’s death as inducement to finally break its silence on human rights violations by Morocco and to take a stand for the immediate and unconditional freedom of all political prisoners in Western Sahara and Morocco. (SPS)
