Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Nov 7, 2014 (SPS) - Saharawi Government on Friday described the speech delivered by Moroccan Kingdom, on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of the Moroccan invasion of Western Sahara on 6 November 1975, as a new explicit declaration of rebellion against UN Charter and resolutions on Western Sahara.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information, Saharawi Government condemned, in the strongest term, Morocco’s rebellion against international legitimacy, highlighting that UN Charter and resolutions “unequivocally” considers Western Sahara a matter of decolonization, which must be sorted out through giving the Saharawi people the chance to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.
“Unfortunately, the King of Morocco seeks to impose the logic of occupation on the UN and its employees, major world powers and human rights organizations, instead of putting into action dictates of international law and legitimacy,” underlined the statement.
Denouncing the speech’s language of threat against Saharawis opposed to the occupation, the statement warned of the gross violations of human rights that might result from this speech.
It, on other hand, urged the international community to speedily take the necessary positions and measures to stand in the face of such serious intransigence, asking them to carry the Kingdom of Morocco to comply with international law and international humanitarian law.
Saharawi Government called on the UN to speed up the decolonization of Western Sahara and put into force the UN-AU settlement plan of 1991, calling for the end of Morocco’s looting of Saharawi natural resources and lift of siege imposed on the territory.
“The Saharawi people, led by their sole legitimate representative the Frente Polisario, categorically reject colonial solutions, and will continue the just fight, by all legitimate means, for freedom and independence,” said the statement. (SPS)
