Addis Ababa, Jan 27, 2015 (SPS) - Zimbabwe Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, on Monday underlined that Western Sahara remains “core issue” on agenda of the African Union (AU) and a “big responsibility” on its shoulders.
Speaking at the 26th ordinary session of the AU Executive Council, underway in Addis Ababa, Minister Mumbengegwi said: “the right to self-determination is a principle the African peoples and AU have fought for.”
Lamenting for the fact that colonialism still exist in African soil in the 21st century, head of Zimbabwe diplomacy urged the AU to work “seriously” vis-à-vis the question of Western Sahara.
He, on other hand, asked his counterparts, meeting in Addis Ababa, to speak out of condemnation to Crans Montana Forum’s decision to hold its annual gathering in the city of Dakhla, occupied territories of Western Sahara.
To be noted, work of the 26th ordinary session of the Executive Council of the African Union kicked off Monday in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia.
The Saharawi Republic (SADR) is represented in this meeting by a delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, and composed of Secretary General of Women Union, Ms. Fetma Mehdi, Minister Delegate for Africa, Mr. Hamdi Abaiha, and Ambassador in Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, Mr. Lamine Baali.
