Algiers, Feb 3, 2015 (SPS) - The decision to hold Crans-Montana Forum in the occupied city of Djhla, Western Sahara, next March is a “violation” of the international law, said Tuesday in Algiers Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek.
“We denounce again the decision to hold Crans-Montana Forum in an occupied Sahrawi territory, which is a violation of the international territory,” Ould Salek told a press conference held at the Sahrawi Embassy in Algiers.
He also underlined that holding the forum in an occupied Sahrawi territory is “in contradiction with the objectives of the organization, which works for the establishment of peace in the world and the creation, the expansion and
deepening of business relationships.”
“By holding this Forum, Morocco is trying to legitimize its illegal occupation of Western Sahara,” said FM.
The decision to hold Crans-Montana Forum in the occupied city of Dajla and the signing of agreements with foreign companies for the exploitation of natural resources of the Sahrawi people “are all manoeuvres of Morocco to make the international community accept the fait accompli,” added Ould Salek.
In this regard, Ould Salek hailed the position of the African Union (AU), which called on its Member States and all the organizations, on Saturday during the AU Summit in Addis Ababa, not to participate in the Crans-Montana Forum.
The AU also asked the Swiss international organization Crans Montana and all other organizations to cancel the meeting to be held in the occupied city of Dajla.
For the Pan-African organization, holding an international conference in the present circumstances in Western Sahara “is in contradiction with the international community’s efforts to resolve the Western Sahara conflict and would create a climate of confrontation in the territory.”
Ould Salek also welcomed AU’s decision to organize activities in the liberated Sahrawi territories in solidarity with the Sahrawi people in their struggle for freedom and independence. (SPS)
