Strasburg (France), March 26, 2015 (SPS) -The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mrs. Federica Mogherini reaffirmed on Wednesday that the EU supports the efforts of the UN Secretary General to find a political solution, which ensure the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.
The head of European diplomacy also stressed that "the European Union encourages the Frente POLISARIO and Morocco to find a solution to this conflict and supports the efforts of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) and the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General, Christopher Ross ".
Pertaining to the deterioration of the human rights situation in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, as several non-governmental organizations working in this field reported, Mogherini stated that "the European Union is closely following the developments in Western Sahara and expressed concern about the continuing conflict and its impact on security, respect for human rights and cooperation in the region ".
