Chahid Al hafed (refugee camps), April 15, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi National Commission for Human Rights on Wednesday hailed the judgment handed down last Thursday by the Spanish Judge Pablo Ruz against 11 Moroccan military and civilian officials for involvement in genocide against Saharawi citizens occurred between 1975 and 1992.
The Commission said the ruling is a step in the way of realizing justice and equity for the Saharawi people, calling on the international community, notably the UN Security Council, to take it into account when discussing the Saharawi cause.
The Commission also indicated that the ongoing serious human rights violations and practices perpetuated by Moroccan regime require obviously the enlargement of the powers of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include human rights monitoring. (SPS)
