Shaheed El Hafed, September 20, 2015 (SPS) The Union of Saharawi Journalists and Writers (UPES, in Spanish) has "strongly" condemned the terrible situation the Sahrawi journalists experience in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
In a communiqué published Sunday, UPES condemned the lack of freedom of expression in the occupied Saharawi territories and aggression against Saharawi journalists by the Moroccan authorities of occupation.
UPES held Morocco responsible for its serious violations and its policy of repression committed against innocent civilians who are peacefully demanding their rights to freedom and independence.
It denounced the verbal and physical aggression perpetrated by agents of Moroccan intelligence services against the Saharawi journalist Mohamed Mayara during his visit to the city of Tantan (south of Morocco).
UPES cited the case of young blogger and Saharawi journalist for the RASD-TV Chanel Mahmoud al-Haissan who was also arrested and tortured after filming peaceful demonstrations by civilians in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, demanding the right of Saharawi people for freedom and independence, violently dispersed by the forces of the Moroccan occupier.
Several national and international human rights organizations have expressed concern about the situation of human rights and the military and media siege imposed on the occupied territories of Western Sahara. (SPS)
