New York, 5 Sept 2015 (SPS) - Human Rights Watch (HRW), the non-governmental organization monitoring respect for human rights denounced the letter sent by the Moroccan authorities asking it to suspend activities in the Moroccan territory and in occupied Western Sahara in a statement.
"Human Rights Watch deplored the letter sent by the spokesman for the Moroccan government, on September 23, 2015, claiming the suspension of the organization’s activities in Morocco and accusing it of subjectivity and bias without, however, determining the charges," wrote the NGO in its statement.
"For the past 25 years, Human Rights Watch has worked to promote the respect for human rights in Morocco and Western Sahara," the same statement said, which states that the NGO reports on the situation human rights also included "official information, collected through interviews with government officials (Morocco)."
The HRW activity suspension requested by the Moroccan government comes after the expulsion in June 2015, of two officials of Amnesty International.
"It (the claimed suspension) also comes in the context of growing restrictions on local organizations of human rights, including the Moroccan Association of Human Rights," added HRW.(SPS)
