Shaheed El Hafed, Feb 14, 2016 (SPS) The Prime Minister, Abdelkader Taleb Oumar, called Saturday on the European Union to endeavor more efforts to enable the people of Western Sahara to exercise their right to self-determination and independence.

In a press briefing on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), the Prime Minister called on the EU to exert "more pressure on the Kingdom of Morocco to allow the outcome of UN efforts to find a solution to the Western Sahara conflict that has lasted for more than 40 years because of the intransigence of Morocco."

He welcomed the position of the African Union in favor of the decolonization of the last colony in Africa and its role on the international scene, particularly the consensus expressed at the UN Security Council regarding the visit of the Secretary General of United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, to the region.

The Prime Minister praised the position of Sweden and its solidarity with the legitimate struggle of the Saharawi people to self-determination, regretting "the position of France, which is an obstacle to the recognition of SADR in Europe, and not the legal aspect as claimed by other parties ".
