El Aaiun (refugee camps), Feb 23, 2016 (SPS) - The 16th edition of Sahara Marathon, annual international sport demonstration, on Tuesday kicked off in the Saharawi refugee camps, with the participation of 500 Saharawi and international runners from 22 countries in the world, along with runners from Occupied Territories for the first time.
According to organizers, the 16th edition of the Sahara Marathon distinguished from its previous editions by joining the International Campaign for the referendum in Western Sahara, as well,as the participation of a number of volunteer groups from different European countries
The Sahara Marathon includes the 42km standard-distance marathon, in addition to shorter distances of 21km, 10km, 5km and the children’s race.
Since its inception in 2001, Sahara Marathon has been attracting a growing number of participants from around the globe, including of which athletes, runners, activists and sympathizers with the Saharawi people. SPS
