Algiers, 6 March 2016 (SPS) - The participants in the meeting of solidarity with the Sahrawi people in their struggle for self-determination called Saturday, in Algiers, for the implementation of the international law for the organization of a referendum in accordance with the United Nations’ resolutions, underling that the visit of Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to the refugee camps is a “victory” for the Sahrawi cause.
“The visit of Ban Ki-moon to the region notably to the Sahrawi refugee camps is a great victory for the Polisario Front and the countries supporting it in its struggle against the occupier,” said the head of the parliamentary group for Algeria-Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) fraternity Saida Bounab in the meeting co-organized by the town council of Algiers and the occupied city of Laayoune.
After congratulating the struggle of the Sahrawi people, Bounab stressed Algeria’s firm positions against violations and illegal exploitation by Morocco of Western Sahara’s natural resources, adding that “there can be no peace in the Maghreb without the independence of SADR.”
For his part, President of the National Advisory Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (CNCPPDH) Farouk Ksentini said that Algeria “defends a fair cause which is decolonization and has no disagreement with Morocco.”
He lamented, in this regard, “the position of some countries which support the Moroccan occupier for political-economic reasons, hindering the settlement process of the conflict in Western Sahara.”
For his part, Chargé d’Affaires of SADR’s consulate in Algeria Mohamed Cheikh who represented the Sahrawi delegation in this meeting said that “the Sahrawi people made huge concessions so that the referendum in Western Sahara is organized, unlike Morocco which impedes the settlement process.” (SPS)
