Chahid El-Hafed (Sahrawi Republic), 23 September 2024 (SPS) – The Sahrawi Ministry of Interior clarified in a Public Statement Today that the heavy rainfall affecting the Wilaya of Dakhla on Sunday and Monday, which caused damage to homes and public buildings and displaced families to safer areas, has officially led to the declaration of Dakhla in the Sahrawi refugee camps as a disaster zone.
The statement emphasized that, given the exceptional circumstances in the Wilaya (Province), several measures have been enacted, including the suspension of educational activities in schools and of work in regional and local institutions for one week.

Due to the continuous rainfall over the past days, particularly affecting the Dakhla camp, we announce the following:
The Wilaya of Dakhla is declared a disaster zone due to overflowing rivers and the accumulation of water ponds. All forms of study and work in regional, local, and municipal institutions are suspended for one week, with essential services remaining operational. No human casualties have been reported, but significant damage has been recorded, impacting many homes and public facilities. We commend the solidarity and unity shown by all sectors of society during this crisis. Maximum caution is advised, especially avoiding fragile houses, water ponds, and staying clear of electrical wires and generators. Cooperation with local and regional authorities is crucial to effectively managing the situation.“Escalate the struggle to expel the occupation and complete sovereignty.”
