Madrid, April 10, 2024 (SPS) - The General Secretaries of the Spanish Workers' Commissions Union (CCOO) and the General Union of Workers of Saguia al-Hamra and Rio De Oro (UGTSARIO), Mr. Unai Sordo and Mr. Salama Bashir, met Wednesday in Madrid for a working meeting.

During the meeting, the two organizations exchanged their shared experiences from previous years and discussed new mechanisms of solidarity and support for Sahrawi workers.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Workers' Commissions in Madrid, was attended by Ms. Paloma López, the Regional Secretary of the Workers' Commissions in Madrid, and Mr. Abdullah Al-Arabi, the representative of the Polisario Front in Spain.

During the meeting, Mr. Salama Bashir expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the historical support provided by the Workers' Commissions and all regional organizations of the Spanish Workers' Commissions Union throughout Spain in the Sahrawi struggle for freedom and self-determination in recent decades.

The two organizations jointly analyzed their bilateral relations, discussed ways to strengthen and develop them in the next phase, within the context of the current international political situation and the international labor context, facing extremely challenging circumstances at present. Additionally, the need to continue the ongoing process regarding the rights of Sahrawi workers during the Spanish colonial era in Western Sahara was emphasized.
