Brussels, February 22, 2017 (SPS) - The members of the European Parliament have urged the European commission to comply with the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) which excluded last December Western Sahara territories of the EU-Morocco Association Agreement.
In a question to the European Commission and signed by twenty Euro-deputies including Florent Marcellesi, Barbara Lochbihler, Jordi Solé, Klaus Buchner, Jens Nilsson and Kostadinka Kuneva, they demanded that the Commission details the measures taken to comply with the CJEU decision relating to the bilateral and multilateral agreements concluded between the Union and Morocco.
The MEPs also urged the Commission to unveil the measures it plans to adopt to make sure that all the Union’s member states will apply the Court decision.
In their question sent to the Commission, the MEPs recalled that Court repeatedly said that the Union institutions "are obliged to respect the decision. »
Moreover, they called upon the European Commission to "officially inform the Moroccan government that no bilateral and multilateral agreements concluded between the EU and Morocco is applicable,de jure or de facto, to the occupied Sahrawi territories, without the approval of Western Sahara people."
