Decolonization of Western Sahara examined at French National Assembly

Paris, Oct 21, 2017 (SPS)- The decolonization of Western Sahara and Europe’s role in the settlement of the conflict was examined Friday, in a parliamentary meeting at the French National Assembly, the second after the one organized in April 2016.
This meeting, organized at the initiative of Deputy Jean-Paul Lecoq, fervent defender of the Sahrawi cause, gathered several European deputies coming from Spain, Italy and Sweden, as well as Algerian parliamentarians, representatives of the associative movement and Saharawi officials.
The ambassadors of Venezuela and Cuba in France also participated in this meeting which was chaired by Pierre Galand, president of the European Coordinating Conference of Support to the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO).
Jean-Paul Lecoq first underlined that the Western Sahara issue is now discussed at the French National Assembly, announcing that he proposed to the Assembly’s Committee on Foreign Affairs to include this issue in its works with the programming of a hearing of Horst Kohler, the Personal envoy of the United Nations’ Secretary General for Western Sahara.
