New York, Sept 22, 2016 (SPS) -The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Dr. Ahmed Ould Isalku Izeid Bih, received yesterday in New York the Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the Nations United to Western Sahara, Mr. Christopher Ross, responding to a request from the latter, according to the Mauritanian News Agency.
According to the same source, during the meeting, which coincides with the tense situation escalation caused by Morocco in the area of El Guergarat, the parties discussed important issues of common interest.
In this context, it was expected that the Special Envoy of the UN to Western Sahara undertake an visit to the region to boost UN efforts to reach a solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, but their efforts were hampered by Moroccan obstacles. SPS
