Algiers, March 22, 2016 (SPS) - Sahrawi Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek stressed Monday in Algiers that Algeria's stand in favour of the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination through a transparent self-determination referendum supervised by the UN, in accordance with international legality, has provoked a "fierce campaign" and "obstinacy" of Morocco.
Ould Salek, who was guest at "Echaab" daily forum, said that "this obstinacy reflects a total contradiction from Morocco with the reality of the Western Sahara conflict that opposes the Polisario Front to the Moroccan kingdom." This proves "Morocco's failure and isolation today," he added.
The Sahrawi official hailed Algeria's position and "past and current support" to the rights of peoples that aspire to freedom.
Ould Salek also linked Morocco's occupation of Western Sahara to the Apartheid system, which was in force in South Africa, recalling that "this system considered the African National Congress as a terrorist movement and adherent countries as transgressors of South Africa's national integrity."
Besides the non-recognition of the Sahrawi people, Morocco multiplies accusations against the Polisario Front as the sole legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people," he added.
Ould Salek also fustigated Morocco that "encourages illegal immigration and inundates the region with drug."SPS
