London, Nov 10, 2017 (SPS)- Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW) has denounced the Moroccan wind energy projects in the occupied Sahrawi territories, underlining that the Moroccan and foreign companies involved in these projects are systematically violating the decisions of the European Court of Justice and the United Nations.
With the new planned wind farms in Boujdour, 40.3% of Morocco's green energy production would come from the occupied territories of Western Sahara by 2020, said WSRW in a statement.
The non-governmental organization warned that the Moroccan green energy programme plans to "link two wind farms, which are still in the planning phase: the Aftissat plant (200 MW) and Boujdour farm (400 MW). Both projects would be built in the occupied Western Sahara."
"The construction work on the Aftissat plant is already ongoing, adding that the British company Windhoist is installing the 56 Siemens wind mills," said WSRW.
These two new plants would be added to two other wind farms that are being illegally built in the occupied Sahrawi territories, as part of a programme that includes the construction of five wind farms, of which two in Western Sahara.
The programme has been entrusted to a consortium of firms, led by the German giant Siemens, which teamed up with Italy's Enel Green Power and Moroccan company Nareva.
Siemens is involved in almost all wind energy projects in the occupied territories, said WSRW.SPS
