Human rights violations in Western Sahara denounced in Algiers

Algiers, Dec 16, 2012 (SPS) - The rights violations of human rights in the occupied Western Sahara have been unanimously denounced Saturday in Algiers, during the 3rd International Conference of Algiers on “Peoples’ right to resist: the Sahrawi case”.


President of the Italian Association of Solidarity with the Saharawi People Mr. Luciano Ardesi called for an end to the “massive and repeated violations” of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara by Moroccan forces.


He said that his association was sparing no effort to ensure that the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people is recognized, noting having urged Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to plead in international forums in favor of Saharawis’ independence.


Ardesi said that observation missions in the occupied territories of Western Sahara had been organized by the association, including the trials of Saharawi activists.


However, several Italian observers were unable to attend the trial because repressed by the Moroccan government, he bemoaned, denouncing media blockade imposed by the Kingdom of on what is happening in the occupied Saharawi territories.


“We have alerted our government and our embassy in Rabat (Morocco) on these practices, asking them to protect the observers,” he added. (SPS)
