Bir Lahlou (Liberated Territories), 20 March 2016 (SPS) - Foreign minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek has vehemently condemned Morocco's "irresponsible decision" to reduce the civilian personnel of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

"Saharawi government and the Polisario Front vehemently condemn this irresponsible measure taken by the occupier (Morocco), which must shoulder the full responsibility of the (decision's)   aftereffects if it is applied," Ould Salek said Sunday in a statement.

The Saharawi minister said Morocco's decision to reduce civilian, political and administrative personnel of Minurso means "the end of the mission for which MINURSO was created."

"Through this decision, Morocco stirs up tensions and pushes Saharawi people to take up arms again," he warned.

Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic's foreign policy chief stressed that respect of the ceasefire, by the two parties, is "contingent on the referendum which is due to be organized by the civilian personnel of MINURSO," by virtue of the agreement the two sides concluded under the aegis of the United Nations and the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1991.
