Havana, June 2, 2017 (SPS) President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, was received on Friday by the President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, also member of the Political Bureau of the Cuban Communist Party.
During the audience, Mr. Lazo reaffirmed the depth of the historical relations between the two brotherly peoples in the Republic of Cuba and the Saharawi Republic and reiterated his country's position of principle in support of the legitimate struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence.
For his part, the President of the Republic expressed the thanks and gratitude of the Saharawi people to the government and people of Cuba for the positions of solidarity and support, emanating from the nobility of the principles of this country and its attachment to defend the dignity, the legitimacy and rights of oppressed peoples to self-determination and independence.
The President of the Republic made a presentation on the latest developments in the Western Sahara issue, including Morocco's policies of escalation, provocation and obstruction, as well as the situation in the occupied Sahrawi territories, and the plundering of natural resources in Western Sahara.
The President of the Republic, Brahim Ghali, started an official visit to the Republic of Cuba on May 25, where he was received by his counterpart Raul Castro and met with ministers of health, education, as well as senior officials of the Communist Party of Cuba. (SPS)
