UJS denounces Moroccan systematic torture against defenseless Saharawi civilians

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps) June 27, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi Union of Jurists (UJS) has denounced Morocco’s systematic torture perpetuated against the defenseless Saharawi civilians in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, on the occasion of the International Day against Torture observes on June 26 each year.

In a statement reached Monday SPS, UJS denounced the systematic torture and degrading acts against the unarmed Saharawi civilians, expressing solidarity with the Saharawi victims of torture.

It called on the international human rights and judiciary bodies to present those responsible of torture, kidnapping and assassination in Morocco before trail, as well as dispatching international committees to the territory of Western Sahara to investigate on the human rights.

It also called for exerting pressure on Morocco to respond to the legitimate demands of the Saharawi political prisoners, currently in a hunger strike.

The Union urged the Moroccan government to immediately and unconditionally release all the Saharawi human rights defenders and political detainees, withdraw the unfair judgments against them, unveil the whereabouts of the Saharawi disappeared and open the occupied territories of Western Sahara for international media, observers and parliamentarians.
