Establishment of diplomatic relations between Republic of South Sudan and Saharawi Republic

Juba (South Sudan) July 10, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Republic of South Sudan signed Saturday a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries at the ambassadorial level.

In a joint communiqué signed by Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek and Hon. Mr. Deng Alor Kuol, the two countries decide have decided to establish diplomatic ties at ambassadorial level to further
"strengthen their bilateral ties in line with the principles and objectives enshrined in the Constitutive Act of the African Union and the UN Charter."

It also recalled the long history of friendship, solidarity and common struggle for freedom, self-determination and independence shared by the two brotherly African peoples, Saharawi and South Sudanese people.

It is worth noting that the Saharawi Republic announced Saturday its formal recognition of the Republic of South Sudan as an independent and sovereign state coinciding with the official declaration of independence, held Saturday with the presence of Saharawi delegation led by the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz.
