Polisario Front calls on UN to assume its responsibilities in decolonization of Western Sahara

Shaheed El Hafed, September 8, 2011 (SPS) - The National Secretariat (SN) of the Polisario Front called Thursday on the United Nations to assume its responsibility for the decolonization of Western Sahara, ensure the security and integrity of the defenseless Sahrawi citizens and establish a mechanism allowing MINURSO to control and monitor human rights situation in the territories under the Moroccan occupation.

 

In this respect, the SN expressed the readiness of the Polisario Front to continue to cooperate in a "constructive" way with the UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy in their efforts to achieve a just and definitive solution to the Western Sahara conflict, to enable the Saharawi people to exercise its natural right to freedom and independence, through a free, fair and impartial referendum.

 

regarding the developments on the international scene, including movements that shook the Arab world, the NS recalled that the struggle of the Saharawi people is a just struggle for freedom, democracy and self-determination, expressing wish for the establishment of peace and stability in the Maghreb region and around the world, based on full respect for law and will of the people.
