Participants of ARTifariti 2011 call on UN to finally hold the self-determination referendum in Western Sahara

Smara (Saharawi refugee camps), Oct 22, 2011 (SPS) - The participants in ARTifariti 2011 called Saturday on the UN to fulfill its duty and finally hold the referendum of self-determination in Western, guarantee the respect of human rights in the occupied territories and immediately liberate all the Sahrawi political prisoners, according to the manifesto of ARTifariti 2011.

The Participants in the 5th International Encounter of Art in the Western Sahara (ARTifariti 2011) said “we come to reflect, through our creative works, on the terrible situation that the Sahrawi people must endure,” affirming “now, more than ever, art has the opportunity to inform and appeal to the international community to end the exile forced by the Moroccan occupation.”

The Manifesto deplored the continuing violent aggressions suffered by the Sahrawi community by the hand of the Moroccan colonizers, adding that there is still no spring for the Sahrawi people and Moroccan colonizers have begun committing atrocities against Sahrawis in Dahkla and other occupied cities.

ARTifariti participants expressed their solidarity with the population of the occupied territories who face constant violation of human rights, inhuman violence and torture.

It also welcomed the Saharawi human rights activists who took part in the 5th Art Encounter in Western Sahara, encouraging them in this regard to keep fighting. (SPS)
