Conclusion of an international conference on trade union solidarity with Saharawi workers in Lisbon

Lisbon (Portugal), Oct 29, 2011 (SPS) - The fifth international conference on trade union solidarity with the Saharawi workers wrap out Friday, by voicing support to the Saharawi cause.

During their interventions in the closing ceremony, Member organizations from Portugal, Spain, Italy and France in the preparatory committee stressed on the need to put the decisions and terms taken by the Conference into action.

From his part, the Secretary General of Saharawi Workers Union (UGSARIO), Mr. Mohamed Sheihk Mohamed Lahbib, has expressed satisfaction with the results achieved and thanked the international trade unions organizations who successfully supervised the Conference as well as the national and international organizations which attended.

The Conference unanimously approved a manifesto expressing concern of the participating trade unions on the situation of the Saharawi workers in the occupied Western Sahara and called on Morocco to comply with the international legitimacy through enabling the free exercise of the Saharawi people to their legitimate right of self-determination.

It also denounced the cowardly kidnapping incident on 3 foreign cooperators from Spain and Italy who was working in the humanitarian field in the Saharawi refugee camps. (SPS)
