Elections of the Saharawi National Council on Feb 21st (official

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), Jan 22, 2012 (SPS) - The Committee of elections of the Saharawi National Council (Parliament) announced that the elections will be held on February 21st, after a meeting chaired by its President and Member of the National Secretariat, Mr. Mhamed Khaddad.

The Committee also decided that the political conferences will start from Feb 18 to 20, on the basis that the campaigns of the candidates and dissemination of Polisario 13th Congress’s results begin.

The candidates are vying for 52 seats in 11 constituencies distributed on the institutions, wilayas and People’s Liberation Army.

The new parliament members, to be inaugurated in the liberated territory of Tifariti on the forthcoming Feb 27th coinciding with the proclamation of SADR, will be elected for two-year term according to the decisions of the Polisario 13th Congress, which approved an amendment on the election of a number of state and movement bodies.

The establishment of the Committee has been overseen by the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, and Prime Minister, Mr. Abdelkader Taleb Omar. (SPS)
