Asunción, April 23, 2012 (SPS) - The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) has called on the United Nations to assume its full responsibilities towards the people of Western Sahara, urging it to extend the task of MINURSO to include the monitoring of human rights in the Saharawi occupied territories, in a communiqué concluded works of its 29th Congress held April 20-22 in Asunción, capital of Paraguay.

The communiqué called for finding a democratic and just solution to the conflict of Western Sahara allowing the Saharawis right to democratically and transparently express their views on their political future, asking to commit to the seriousness in implementing international law through the referendum of self-determination.

IUSY also urged Moroccan state to halt the aggressive acts against the Saharawi people, which are daily reflected through continued violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, as to stop the looting and exploitation of Saharawi natural resources.

It demanded that the Moroccan military wall, which is a crime against humanity and a shame that distort the nature, be removed.

“It is time to put an end to the crime against humanity, mainly Moroccan separation wall that divides the Saharawi people, equipped by all tools of destruction including millions of internationally banned landmines banned internationally, which continuously threaten dignity and lives of the Saharawis, in addition to the wildlife and environment,” stated the communiqué.

It should be recalled that the Saharawi Youth Union (UESARIO) elected as one of deputies of IUSY president. (SPS)
