POLISARIO expects “quick resumption” of negotiations after renewing confidence in Mr. Ross (Khadad)

Bir Lehlou (liberated territories), August 26, 2012 (SPS) - The Frente Polisario expects “a quick resumption” of the negotiations after the confirmation of Mr. Ross in his office, and demands that the latter keeps his promise to visit the Saharawi territories under Moroccan occupation, stated the Saharawi coordinator with the MINURSO, Mr. Mhamed Khadad.


“After months of unnecessary blocking and decades of suffering of the Saharawi people, the Polisario Front hopes for a quick resumption of negotiations and called on the Security Council to take control of the situation and accelerate the process of adopting a timetable and deadline for the holding of a referendum on self-determination to put an end to the Moroccan-Saharawi conflict as recommended by international law and the resolutions of the General Assembly and the security Council,” said Mr. Khadad in a written statements to SPS.


Mr. Khadad called on the Personal Envoy “to keep his promise to visit the region, including Western Sahara, as agreed by the parties and endorsed by the Security Council in its resolution 2044 (April 24, 2012).”


The Polisario Front took note of the confirmation by the Secretary General of the UN his Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, to continue to monitor negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco should be held “on the basis of the mandate of the Security Council to find a just and lasting solution to the conflict of decolonization in Western Sahara, guaranteeing the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.” (SPS)
